The Erbil Book Fair is not just another aspect of the Ennahda movement, which for years has been reformulating the features of the city and all the bright spaces in the Kurdistan region and consolidating its identity, but rather overlaps with the process of awakening that moves from one square to another and in all directions to devote new values commensurate with the spirit of the times and its requirements and expand the areas of progress and modernization development carried out by the Kurdistan Regional Government in Iraq. The book, like all other means of culture, occupies a leading position within the framework of what the government, civil society organizations and other political, economic and social actors aim to achieve, and in this direction the role of the book fair is determined, bypassing the traditional formulas that have negatively affected this free cultural event, which was in its beginnings a tool for spreading cultural values, and carrying a cultural concern and an open occasion for the free exchange of news and opinions and deepening them through participation and interaction, which in this context is far from just a market for the exchange of The book and its trafficking. A secure Kurdistan within the framework of the new Iraq hosts the Book Fair as a free cultural oasis, from which it moves to other parts of the country, to clarify what it holds again in the world of thought, culture and science and to lay solid foundations in its fields to transfer it and enable other centers in the country to create appropriate structures for them until security and stability are restored. The Erbil International Book Fair, in its fifteenth session, is an attempt and contribution to provide a new form with contemporary content for the book fair, in which it is confirmed that culture is the base for any development and awakening, and the exhibition, as it is held in Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region – Iraq, will appreciate the participants’ response, and will work in order for their participation to acquire a meaning beyond the circulation of their products and put them at the disposal of readers, research institutions, scholars, universities and houses of culture, this exhibition will acquire its unique specificity from other events that open to all forms of Culture, arts, sciences and thought.
